These are the 5 pillars of a successful diet. Once you know the road map and where your going diet adherence becomes easier to obtain.
1. Inspiration
This is the first step and either comes out of a positive moment or a negative one. You can see a picture of someone and say "I want to look like that!, Im going to finally do it!" or maybe you realize that you are out of shape or see a picture of yourself that you dont like and realize that you HAVE to do something now.
2. Motivation and Setting the Goal
Inspiration gets you to the realization that this is what you either WANT to do or NEED to do. Inspiration is short lived and needs to be now converted into motivation. You now need to define the goal. You need to have a target to shoot at. Once you define the goal now you have something to accomplish and its easier to stay motivated. Positive results as you get going will boost your motivation and it has a snow ball effect.
3. Commitment to Execute a Plan
Motivation changes from day to day and when motivation dips your commitment to execute the plan must take over. Its the road map you take to get to your goal when motivation dips. You look at the map and say 'this is what I need to do and this is what I can't do'. This is also where a coach helps and holds you accountable. The coach will know how much 'wiggle room' is enough or too much. The coach can put you back on track if you happen come off course.
4. Discipline and Will Power
In truth, there will be days where motivation is low and intentions are questioned. This is where you need to realize this is a acute period of low motivation and it will return. This is when your discipline and will power need to kick in and take over. It is the tool you use to close the gap between motivation and commitment. Know that there will be hard times but you have the tool of will power to use in those moments. This is where most people fail because they don't understand getting through the tough days is what supercharges motivation. Just get through the tough days and grind.
5. Habit
The more you use those 4 tools listed above the better you get at dieting. Over time you will be using those tools without thinking about it. This is when dieting becomes habit and your end goal is in sight. You now have the experience of what each tool feels like and when to use it. Over time it will just come naturally and dieting becomes habit.
